Imagining the future of digital learning in Vietnamese higher education.
About this collection
As part of the SOARing DX-VN project, students from three Vietnamese partner universities — British University Vietnam (BUV), University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), and Tra Vinh University (TVU) — participated in a series of Vision Board Workshops held in June–July 2023.
The activity invited students to imagine their “digital university of the future” through creative design, discussion, and reflection. Conducted in collaboration with Bournemouth University (UK), the vision boards provided a unique opportunity to hear directly from Vietnamese students about their aspirations, expectations, and concerns in a rapidly changing digital world.

Why student voices matter
Digital transformation in higher education is most meaningful when it includes the voices of those it serves — students.
Through the Vision Boards, participants shared how they envision technology shaping their future learning experiences, from classroom interactions to lifelong skill development.
Their perspectives highlight the human side of digital change — emphasizing not only technology adoption, but also values like creativity, equity, and ethics.
Key themes from the Vision Boards
Across all three universities, several recurring ideas emerged, reflecting a shared vision for Vietnam’s digital higher education future:
1. Human creativity and ethical AI
Students recognize the potential of AI to enhance learning but stress that AI should support — not replace — human creativity and critical thinking. They call for ethical guidelines, transparency, and responsible use of digital tools.
2. Flexible, engaging, and blended learning
Learners imagine universities where online and in-person learning blend seamlessly, supported by mobile access, micro-lessons, gamified learning, and virtual simulations (VR/AR). These innovations make education more inclusive and personalized.
3. Connection beyond the campus
Students envision stronger connections between universities, industry, and communities through online engagement platforms, translation tools, and virtual collaboration spaces that encourage knowledge exchange and career development.
4. Digital skills for the future workforce
Participants emphasize the need for continuous digital skills training, critical thinking, and creativity to prepare for future job markets — especially in fields driven by data, design, and AI technologies.
5. Fair and transparent digital assessment
AI-assisted evaluation tools, continuous feedback systems, and e-portfolios are seen as essential for personalized and equitable assessment, ensuring learning outcomes are meaningful and transparent.
Insights for educators and policymakers
The student vision boards offer valuable guidance for shaping Vietnam’s higher education strategies:
- Invest in digital infrastructure and inclusive access, particularly for remote learners.
- Integrate AI and emerging technologies ethically and creatively into curricula.
- Empower teachers and students with digital literacy and innovation training.
- Develop blended and lifelong learning models that support flexibility and autonomy.
- Strengthen partnerships between universities, government, and industry to create connected ecosystems of learning.

From imagination to action
The findings from these Vision Boards inform the broader SOARing DX-VN Digital Transformation Toolkit, alongside:
- The Vietnamese version of Framework for Digital Transformation in Higher Education,
- The Digital Maturity Self-Assessment Tool, and
- The Video Case Studies from participating institutions.
Together, they highlight that digital transformation begins with people — their ideas, aspirations, and creativity.
By listening to students, we build universities that are not only digitally advanced but also inclusive, human-centered, and future-ready.
