Digital transformation in higher education is not only about adopting technology – it’s about redesigning how universities operate, teach, and support learners in a rapidly changing world.

We are introducing the resources for Digital Transformation in Vietnamese Higher Education developed by the SOARing DX-VN project – a UK-VN collaborative project between Bournemouth University (BU), British University Vietnam (BUV), University of Economics Ho Chi Minh city  (UEH) and Tra Vinh University (TVU), supported by the British Council’s Going Global Partnerships programme.

Our goal is to provide practical, evidence-based resources that help Vietnamese higher education institutions plan, assess, and accelerate their digital transformation journeys.

The guide includes four key components designed to be used together:

• 1. The Vietnamese Framework for Digital Transformation in Higher Education

Start here to understand the framework – the overall structure and principles of digital transformation in Higher Education.

This framework is a Vietnamese localized version of the original “Framework for Digital Transformation in Higher Education” developed by Jisc, the UK not-for-profit organization focused on tertiary education, research and innovation.

• 2. The Digital Maturity Self-Assessment Tool

Once familiar with the framework, use this interactive tool to assess your institution’s current level of digital maturity across multiple dimensions.

It will guide you in identifying priority areas for development and investment, and provide a customized report summarizing strengths, gaps, and recommendations for next steps. The results can help your institution set clear goals and track progress over time.

3. 3. Presentation and Video Case Studies

After understanding where your institution stands, explore how other universities in Vietnam and the UK are taking action.

These case studies capture change management practices, leadership insights, and implementation experiences from our Vietnamese partner institutions that participated in the SOARing DX-VN project and piloted the Digital Maturity Self-Assessment Tool. Their stories offer practical lessons and inspiration for your next steps.

• 4. Student Vision Boards

Finally, look ahead through the eyes of students.

Students from our three Vietnamese partner universities took part in vision-boarding workshops to imagine their future digital university. Their vision Boards reveal how students envision digital transformation that:

• 1. Enhances learning flexibility and access.
• 2. Builds more personalized and engaging learning experiences.
• 3. Connects them with global learning communities.

These creative visions express students’ aspirations for the digital university of the future and can inspire inclusive, student-centred action plans.
